We recently began various "book clubs" through our new reading series Superkids, and the kids are LOVING it!
Read to Self
The best way to become a better reader is to practice each day with "Good Fit"
books that you have selected yourself. It's fun!
Expanded vocabulary leads to greater fluency in reading, therefore increasing
comprehension. Becoming more proficient as a speller leads to writing fluency and the ability to get your ideas down on paper
Read to Someone
Partner reading provides opportunities to practice strategies, improve fluency,
check for understanding, and hear your own voice while sharing in the learning
Good Fit Books
"Good Fit" books are books that are not too easy, not too hard. Students should do a quick "picture walk" through a book and use the "5 finger" rule: 5 words that are unknown and cannot pronounce=too hard (therefore NOT a 'good fit' book).
2-3 unknown words=not too easy not too hard (could be a 'good fit' book).
listen to reading
Just Hearing fluent and expressive reading of good literature expands your
vocabulary,; helps build your stamina and will make you a better
